Derrick
Its just a commercial ripoff, supposedly a Brazilian species. Incidentally, Carlos Tatsuta was a commercial fern grower from Brazil who passed away in 2010. He is almost certainly of Japanese descent. glen chappell
I have a small cutting called L. 'Tatsuta' I received from Chad Wunderlicht. He said: "Lecanopteris 'tatsuta' was a cv. that Charles (Alford) propagated and thought he threw away. But he had sent one to Atlanta Botanical Gardens where I (Chad) was told by Wistuba it was. I took a cutting and sent it back to Alford. It probably is crustacea x mirabilis. L.'alford' is probably the same but it took on more of Mirabilis, and 'tatsuta' takes after crustacea, but it still gets HUGE. Nice cv." My guess was simply that either Chad (probably) or Charles named it in honor of Carlos.
