Andreas Wistuba
Here is a picture of a very interesting species of Myrmecodia from Dinagat Island (Mindanao, Philippines). It grew in a very special fairly dry lowland forest which meanwhile has been sacrificed to mining despite a lot of protest by local people. The plant is very special for the hard succulent leaves. The leaves always have a thin white margin and a white stalk. The only other species that has fairly succulent leaves is Myrmecodia beccarii, but the leaves in this species are much harder than anything I've seen in Myrmecodia beccarii. The caudex and stem is rather smooth. I've not yet gone through old descriptions deep enough. However, this species certainly is none of the ones that appear in Huxley and Jebb, except if this represents another species being dumped into the notorious M. tuberosa....
