I suspect that this ant photographed in the Hinchinbrook Channel swamps on Myrmecodia beccarii is the highly invasive Big Headed Ant, Pheidole megacephala, a species that may be replacing the mutualist native ant species Philidris cordata. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pheidole_megacephala.
